Korto Momolu: Pronounced (CUT-TOE MO-MO-LU)
Korto Momolu, a fashion designer and stylist born in Liberia, is gaining international acclaim for her women's wear and accessory line that honors her African heritage. Her creations incorporate traditional, luxurious fabrics that reflect her rich cultural background.
After relocating to Canada in 1990 due to a coup in Liberia, Korto graduated from L'academies des Couturiers Design Institute in Ottawa, Ontario. She later auditioned for and secured a spot on the fifth season of Bravo's Emmy-nominated show Project Runway, where her inventive use of color and diverse prints, styles, and presentations distinguished her from the competition. Her vibrant personality earned her the "Fan Favorite" title and a position as 1st runner-up.
Korto's designs have graced numerous fashion shows across the globe, including events in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Honduras, Canada, and Liberia. She was commissioned by Alice Walton to create uniforms for the staff at The Crystal Bridges Museum, showcasing her ability to design for individuals of all shapes and sizes.
Her career highlights include being recognized as one of the Top 5 designers to watch by New York magazine and being featured in a variety of national and international publications such as Elle, Vogue, Marie Claire, Arise, Ebony, and Essence. Korto has also made several television appearances, including Bravo's Project Runway All Stars 20, Arise TV, BET's Rip the Runway, BET's Lens on Talent, The Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage, and The Sherri Shepherd Show.
Most recently, Korto served as an Artist in Residence at the University of Central Arkansas, where her body of work was displayed at the Windgate Center for Performing Arts during her residency. She has been chosen as the designer for the Orchesis dancers at Grambling State University for the 21st annual Bayou Classic.
In addition to her remarkable career in fashion, Korto is a philanthropist who dedicates her talents to numerous charitable initiatives. She currently lives in Little Rock, Arkansas, with her children.
